WHAT IT IS
SkyPlay is, very simply, a CLI command that will play one or more Skypix
graphics files. You can stick it in your C directory and use it to display
files that use the Skypix graphics protocol.
The syntax is:
SkyPlay FILENAME [FILENAME] [FILENAME] [...]
where FILENAME is the name of a Skypix file. The player will play the
files in sequence. Entering the word SkyPlay alone or "SkyPlay ?" gives a
syntax reminder (and the Iconoclast BBS board number).
While the file is playing, the filename and the word PLAYING or FINISHED
will appear in the title bar. Since Skypix files can pause for a time,
this is provided to let you know if the file is through yet or not. When
it's through, you can go to the next one by selecting the window's CLOSE
gadget. You can abort the whole sequence at any time by pressing any key.
Some things to keep in mind: SkyPlay works as fast as the screen can
display it, much faster than the graphics can work online. However, the
pauses will time out correctly. Also, SkyPlay does NOT parse Atredes
embedded commands; these will be printed as text on the screen. What this
means to you is that if you see garbage, ignore it or edit it out.
Included are two Skypix files in case you don't have any; WARLORD by
Adrian Amberg (Software Failure BBS - 416-853-0025 [in Canada]) and
ICONOCLAST by yours truly. (DON'T PANIC when you run ICONOCLAST! Things
are not what they appear to be...) One way to collect Skypix files is to
simply call an Atredes BBS that has some up and buffer-capture them. In
fact, it's a great idea to call only Atredes BBS's anyway. Be careful
editing them; Skypix doesn't like editors that insert linefeeds and CR's.
If you like this program, send $5 to your local Humane Society. You will
find them listed in your phone book. Or send it to Greenpeace at 1436
U Street NW, Washington, DC 20009. Do it today.
WHAT IS SKYPIX?
In case you've been in a cave for the last few months, or have no Atredes
BBS's in your phonebook, Skypix is a graphics protocol that can provide
excellent Amiga graphics over the phone lines. It is available ONLY on
Amigas, and ONLY systems running ATREDES BBS software, the most advanced
BBS software available for the Amiga. For more information contact the
Iconoclast BBS at 915-833-3899. A free terminal is available on
many systems (ATRTerm or ATRDemo) that supports Skypix (as well as X, Y
and Zmodem). Other terminals, including JRComm, will shortly feature
Skypix support.
To order the Atredes 1.1 BBS System, contact Incognito Software, your
local dealer or Iconoclast.
